We invite you to visit Melcalfe Park during Doors Open and beyond.” Our namesake, established in 1990, derives from Ralph Harold Metcalfe, athlete, politician, and scholar. “Melcalfe Park has a story to share, this app is for both neighbors and visitors to learn more about our neighborhood, a proud majority Black community with over 8,000 residents. Melody McCurtis of Melcalfe Park Community Bridges had this to say. In addition to in-person tours, the public can download the Historic Milwaukee app and take four new app-based tours featuring Clarke Square, Harbor District, Metcalfe Park, and an Indigenous Milwaukee tour beginning September 24. We are proud that Doors Open invites thousands of visitors to explore downtown and Milwaukee’s diverse neighborhoods,” said Grace Fuhr, Historic Milwaukee’s events director. “Historic Milwaukee is grateful to the many locations who open their doors to the public for tours during this city wide celebration. New sites include Fiserv Forum, Komatsu Customer Experience Center, Milwaukee Athletic Club, as well as neighborhood sites including Valor Creative Collective, The George & Madcap Lounge, The Community Within the Corridor, and many more. The event, which began in 2011, will showcase more than 100 locations including theaters, art galleries, museums, municipal buildings, gardens, and more throughout downtown and Milwaukee’s neighborhoods. Media release: Historic Milwaukee’s annual Doors Open Milwaukee program will take place in-person this year.
